YEREVAN. – Within the framework of his working visit to the United States, Armenian Premier Tigran Sargsyan met with Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate of the Diocese of Armenian Church of America (Western). 

Archbishop Derderian briefed the Premiere on the activities of the Diocese. Subsequently, Sargsyan met with representatives from the Armenian community in Southern California, Government press service informs.

After this meeting, Tigran Sargsyan approached the US-based activists of the Teghut Citizens’ Initiative, who were gathered nearby the Diocesan Headquarters and who conveyed their concerns about the environmental issues in Armenia.     

“We are aware of your concerns. We hold numerous talks with representatives of the movement,” the PM told the picketers.  He noted that the activeness by NGOs is welcoming because this is in the interest of the Armenian people. “It is the Government’s duty to create opportunities for you to be able to freely voice the matters of your concern,” Sargsyan said.

In the Premier’s words, this movement is yielding positive results and the state agencies are considering the views which the movement is expressing. “I also wish to express my joy that many of you are planning on returning to Armenia. We invite you to the motherland with great pleasure,” Tigran Sargsyan noted.
