YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Ambassador to Switzerland, world-renowned French-Armenian singer, songwriter, actor, and public activist Charles Aznavour, met on December 7 with SEMRA (Fondation Suisse pour les enfants atteints de maladies rénales en Arménie) fund Chairman Claude Hêche and Vice Chairman Pierre Bernhardt. 

Hêche noted that the motive for the creation of this fund was Aznavour’s call to lend a helping hand to Armenia 24 years ago on this very day, and following the devastating earthquake in Armenia’s Spitak city. He stressed that Aznavour’s becoming a SEMRA honorary member this year gave new impetus to the activities of the fund, Armenian MFA press service informs. 

In his turn, Ambassador Aznavour extended his thanks to SEMRA and all its members for their assistance provided to Armenia, and underscored the need for the fund’s future effective activities in the country.

To note, SEMRA fund was created after the 1988 earthquake in Armenia, and it is a manifestation of Switzerland’s solidarity with the Armenian people. Ever since its 24-year activity, SEMRA has provided about €12 million in financial assistance to children’s health programs in Armenia.
