At a press conference on December 24, the director of the Caucasus Institute, political analyst Alexander Iskandaryan expressed the opinion that European Union is an existing organization with a specific format, and the Eurasian Economic Council is only a project. How can one compare a nail with the moon? In the current situation there is no real choice for Armenia, he insists.

According to the analyst, EurAsEC is a form of test of loyalty of the former Soviet states for Russia.

“This is a just a project. By the side of Moscow itself there are problems with integration. In addition, the current Customs Union is a way to interact mainly between Russia and Kazakhstan. In this regard, it is very difficult to define the future role of Armenia in this economic union,” Iskandaryan said.

In his opinion, the EU is one of the most politically solid organizations in the world. Though in the case of EurAsEC, the areas of cooperation are not yet certain. Alexander Iskandaryan also added that one of his colleagues, an American political scientist Zbigniew Brzezinski thinks that EurAsEC is an absurd idea.
