Turkish women staged a protest march on Sunday against the recent attacks that were carried out against elderly Armenian women in Istanbul’s densely-Armenian-populated Samatya district.

The women, who had gathered at an Istanbul square, expressed their protest of the attacks against Armenian women and the inaction of law enforcement agencies, Etha website of Turkey reports.     

In their respective statement, the Turkish women criticized the law enforcement, for describing these assaults as robberies, and also noted that the law enforcement agencies are not giving any clear explanation on these attacks.

Subsequently, the women started their march and held signs with the names of the four Armenian victims. They headed toward the home of Marissa Kucuk—the elderly Armenian woman that was killed on December 28, 2012—chanting “Armenian women are not alone!” and “Long live the women’s solidarity!” and left flowers in front of her home. Afterward, the women marched toward the homes of the other attack victims and sent a message that they are not alone. The district’s residents supported the marching women with applause.   

To note, as a result of the recent attacks against elderly Armenian women in Istanbul’s densely-Armenian-populated Samatya district since December 2012, Marissa Kucuk was killed, two others lost one of their eyes, and an attempt was made to kidnap another.
