At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona largest cell phone operators declared about creation of Wholesale Applications Community aimed at countering Apple’s dominance in the app market.

The community intends to build up a new open platform that will help to defragment the applications market. At the moment, 28 companies joined the alliance, including LG Electronics, Samsung and Sony Ericsson. The total number of consumers exceeds 3 billion subscribers over the globe.

However, experts voice skepticism over cooperation efficiency of those players who try to create a brand in an attempt to challenge Apple.
