YEREVAN. – The number of beggar and street children in Armenia has increased, Zhoghovurd daily reports.

“In 2012, Armenia’s Police recorded sixteen beggar and street kids, four of which were girls.

In line with the NSS [i.e., the National Statistical Service] data, fifteen beggar and street minors—two of which, girls—were registered in Armenia in 2011.

Most of the beggar and street children were registered in Lori Region.

To note, the official statistics have not yet issued the poverty indicators in Armenia but, as of the previous year’s data, about 35 percent of Armenia’s population is poor,” Zhoghovurd writes.
