YEREVAN. – Armenian duduk master Djivan Gasparyan said today’s Yerevan looks like a European city, not a town it used to be.
World-renowned musician participated in the vote for Yerevan Council on Sunday.
Asked what he would like to change in Armenia’s capital, Gasparyan pointed at drinking water fountains on Abovyan Street.
“The streets must be cleaner,” he added.
The musician urged residents of Yerevan “not to hurry to become Europeans.” There is no need to compare everything with Europe, everything falls into its place, he believes.
“I know it would be better,” Gasparyan resumed.
The Yerevan Council of Elders elections kicked off Sunday at 8am, and 464 precincts opened for the voting.
Six political parties and one bloc are running in the vote. They are the Republican Party of Armenia, Prosperous Armenia Party, Orinats Yerkir (Rule of Law), Armenian National Congress Party (ANCP), Arakelutyun (Mission) Party , ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party, and the “Barev, [Hello] Yerevan” bloc of parties.
