YEREVAN. – May 9 is a day of pride, victory, and accountability for the Armenians. 

Armenia’s opposition Heritage Party Chairman, ex-presidential candidate, former FM Raffi Hovannisian noted the abovementioned on Thursday, after having placed flowers to the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier, which is located in capital city Yerevan’s Victory Park.    

Hovannisian stated that if the victory in 1945 had not taken place, Armenia might not have existed now, and that victory would not have been achieved without the Armenian soldiers.  

“In the early morning hours of May 9 more than twenty years ago, our boys and girls showed that the young spirit is alive and, after numerous losses, they liberated Shushi [city in Nagorno-Karabakh from the Azerbaijanis],” the ex-presidential contender said. 

Hovannisian also made a call to be worthy of this day of the heroes and to create worthy conditions for the war veterans.

“May 9 of [19]45 and [19]92 was a victory. The third victory of May 9 is in the hands of the young generation,” Raffi Hovannisian added.         

To note, aside from Armenian television, Iranian and Taiwanese televisions likewise are covering the placing of flowers nearby the eternal flame.
