YEREVAN. – In line with initial calculations, the Republican Party of Armenia, the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), and the “Barev, Yerevan” bloc will have 42, 17, and 6 seats, respectively, in Yerevan’s new Council of Elders.

The final results will become clear by next week.

Also, it is not yet clear whether or not PAP and the “Barev, Yerevan” bloc will take their seats. PAP Spokesperson Tigran Urikhanyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that they are discussing all matters and the results will be informed.        

In his turn, opposition Heritage Party Vice-Chairman Armen Martirosyan, who headed the Heritage-led “Barev, Yerevan” bloc’s list for the capital city Yerevan Council of Elders election, said the five political parties will meet, after the recounting of the election votes, and examine whether the council seats should be taken.       

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) on Monday issued the preliminary results of the Yerevan Council of Elders election that was conducted on May 5. In line with this outcome, the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, the non-pro-government Prosperous Armenia Party, and the opposition Heritage Party-led “Barev, [Hello] Yerevan” bloc will comprise the new Council of Elders of Yerevan.

Opposition Armenian National Congress Party, opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party, coalition government’s Orinats Yerkir (Rule of Law) Party, and Arakelutyun (Mission) Party, on the other hand, did not pass the 6-percent threshold for the parties to become members in the Yerevan Council of Elders.   

The CEC will issue the final election results on Sunday.
