YEREVAN. - While the presidential elections in Armenia on February 18 were won by the people of Armenia, the Yerevan City Council elections on May 5 were lost by all of us, starting with me, said the leader of Armenian opposition, former presidential candidate and the leader of Heritage party Raffi Hovannisian at a meeting with supporters on May 9 on Liberty Square in Yerevan downtown.

“I lost, but [Armenian President] Serzh Sargsyan lost even more,” Hovannisian added.

The leader of Armenian opposition at the same time reminded that the fight against the government is not a struggle of one citizen, but it is a struggle of the people.

“Do not compare me with any incumbent or former presidents. Do not compare me with the heroes of the war. I am an ordinary man. I invite you to continue struggle, which began on February 18. On that day, people did their job and have the right to demand that their candidate acts. But I also have a right to expect from the people that they actively participate in the protest actions, instead of sitting at home and watching online the protests on Liberty Square or Baghramyan Avenue,” Raffi Hovannisian stressed.

He added that the country needs changes.

“Change of generations must be completed in the authorities, the opposition, and the people,” he said.
