YEREVAN. – Former mayoral candidate Armen Martirosyan said he has “normal attitude” towards the decision of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) to reject the petition of Heritage party to declare the recent Yerevan Council election invalid.
“Armenia’s CEC exists to reject the opposition’s demands and to hold such elections which we currently have. I do not consider CEC’s refusal grounded,” Martirosyan told Armenian News- NEWS.am.
However, he admitted there was a technical error and the petition was filed in a wrong way.
As to whether the members of the “Barev, Yerevan” bloc will take their seats in the Council of Elders, Martirosyan noted that the matter will be discussed and the decision will be announced later.
Earlier CEC rejected bloc’s petition demanding that elections must be recognized invalid. According to the final results of the municipal elections, “Barev, Yerevan” bloc got six out of 65 seats in the Yerevan Council.
