YEREVAN. – The visit of Secretary of State John Kerry to Moscow was a surprise for the analysts, in particular from the American side which was more inspired by the results of this visit, Armenian diplomat said.

Arman Navasardyan, ambassador and head of diplomat.am website, considers important the fact that John Kerry was received by President Vladimir Putin who also expressed words of praise about future relations.

“Putin spoke about his meetings with U.S. President Barack Obama. In particular, the first meeting will take place in Northern Ireland within the framework of G8 meeting, followed by a meeting in St. Petersburg in September. The third meeting will be held within the framework of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation in Indonesia this October,” Navasardyan told reporters on Tuesday , adding that the meetings will also focus on Syria.

He recalled that the U.S. and western bloc stand for providing weapons to the Syrian opposition to topple Bashar Assad. At the same time the UN Commission found no traces of chemical weapons used by the Syrian government.

Navasardyan is confident it is noting but American diplomatic and intelligence game targeted at preventing active military intervention of the American side.

“If the U.S. really wanted to intervene, they would need motivation. Everyone knows the American methods,” he stressed.

As for the Russian side, Navasardian noted that Syria is Russia’s foothold in the Middle East. He also pointed at Sunni problem recalling that Putin “was fighting against Sunnis in Chechnya back in 2000.”
