YEREVAN. – Russia and the United States seem to have reached a certain consensus on the Syrian issue, Armenian diplomat said.

Arman Navasardyan, ambassador and head of diplomat.am website, stressed that Russian leader Vladimir Putin, unlike the Americans, wants to reach resolution without force.

According to him, the decision to hold a conference on Syria is a continuation of the Geneva Communique adopted last year.

“They have reached agreement on two main aspects: to solve the problem in Syria peacefully and preserve its territorial integrity,” Navasardyan added, stressing that the Russian side has not actually refused to supply weapons to Syria.

The Ambassador expressed opinion that if Putin is fighting for the restoration of bipolar world order, the United States want to reshape the entire region. “The background of this, of course, is oil,” he added.
