YEREVAN. – Armenian parliament on Monday rejected the initiative on setting up an ad hoc committee on the March 1 tragic events.

The draft decision presented by the Armenian National Congress (ANC) bloc got 47 votes “for” and 58 “against”, two MPs abstained. The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and the coalition partner Orinats Yerkir voted against the decision which was supported also by Prosperous Armenia and its leader Gagik Tsarukyan.

Before the vote, head of the RPA faction Galust Sahakyan said they would vote against the decision due to “certain problems.”

Meanwhile, the opposition MP Gagik Jahangiryan said the authorities introduced seven offers “six and a half of which were accepted.”

Head of ANC parliamentary faction Levon Zurabyan said RPA broke the promise and proved it is responsible for the March 1 tragic events.

On March 15 Armenian parliament’s committee on legal affairs unanimously adopted draft decision on creating an ad hoc committee to study the March 1 events during which 10 people were killed.
