YEREVAN. – Former presidential candidate Andreas Ghukasyan said the Armenian government is first of all interested in price hike.

The higher prices are, the larger budget will be, he explained. The gas price issue was not discussed when Armenia was buying gas from Turkmenistan, Ghukasyan said during the Monday press conference.

“During the 2000s, when the country began to buy gas from Russia, the issue has become a serious problem. The current policy of price rise is the policy that serves the interests of the government,” he emphasized

The politician is confident it is a serious challenge for the Armenian government because, to a certain extent, this is threatening national security of the country.

“People’s power is in army, nation and a state. Unless there is consolidation between the three elements, the country has no real power to defend itself.  Today the Armenian state and the nation are in opposite camps,” he said.

Ghukasyan noted that the government is trying to solve their problems at the expense of citizens.

“Such an unfair situation is eliminated by revolutions. Social clashes are inevitable,” he resumed.
