Russia intends to continue promoting peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict, Russian FM said.

On Tuesday, Sergey Lavrov held talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov. During the press conference following the talks Lavrov said they had discussed the Karabakh issue, Voice of Russia reported.

“We are one of the three main international mediators and intend to continue to help the parties find mutually acceptable solutions within the framework of our bilateral relations with Baku and Yerevan, and as a co-chairing state of the OSCE Minsk Group,” Lavrov said.

In his turn, Azerbaijani FM Elmar Mammadyarov said he expects progress in resolving the Karabakh conflict after elections in Azerbaijan at the end of this year.

He said as soon as Azerbaijan comes out of elections, the parties must double, even triple the efforts in order to achieve breakthrough on resolution of the Karabakh conflict which he labeled as “complicated but solvable dispute.”
