YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Energy Minister said increase in energy prices is a global trend.

Armen Movsisyan responded to lawmakers’ questions during the Wednesday session of the Armenian parliament.  

For example, head of the opposition ANC faction Levon Zurabyan asked the Minister when the government had learnt about the new gas offer, and whether it is connected with the end of election campaign in Armenia.

Minister Movsisyan assured the talks had been underway for a long time.

“The  gas price on the border is the lowest price for which Russia sells natural gas to other states,” he said.

The Minister dismissed allegations that gas price is linked to the end of election campaign. The government’s task is to mitigate the effect of gas price hike, he added.

“The government decided to subsidize 30 percent of gas price. Who will do it? At what expense? The talks with the Russian side continue,” the Minister told lawmakers.
