YEREVAN. – Russia is trying to restore its mediation activeness in the talks on Nagorno-Karabakh, political analyst Narek Galstyan said.

“The statements of the co-chairs suggest that they are definitely preparing to give a new impetus to the negotiating process. However, this does not mean that some solutions are found. This only means that the atmosphere of tension created after the incident with Ramil Safarov has been eased a little,” he told reporters on Thursday.

He believes the co-chairing states plan to intensify the Karabakh talks after the presidential elections in Azerbaijan. The peace process faced no changes in terms of content. There were no new proposals or new ideas, Galstyan said.

“Much was spoken about investigation in connection with the snipers and border incidents,” he recalled.

Political analyst deems that Armenian side must insist on direct participation of Karabakh in negotiations.
Regarding the Madrid Principles, Galstyan said they should not be considered as final offers.

“Not all principals will necessarily become the basis for a peace agreement. Madrid Principles are a part of the negotiating package,” he concluded.
