YEREVAN. – The date for the first court hearing into the case of Vrezh Galstyan, who had tried to break into the Armenian National Assembly (NA) building on March 22, is known.

Armenian News-NEWS.am has ascertained from the judicial information system that the first court session is set for June 3.

Galstyan, who was declared insane, is charged with illegal entry to the NA area, which is considered a special protection object, and not heeding the state security service officers’ instructions to stop his unlawful action.         

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, a man sustained a gunshot wound as he tried to carry in a knife into the NA building on March 22. The man managed to enter the courtyard of the parliament, at about 2:30pm, and started voicing threats. The parliament’s security officers ordered him to throw the knife, but he disobeyed the order. Subsequently, the security officers fired shots in the air, but the man still did not follow the order. Consequently, the police officers were forced to fire at his leg. The NA physician provided medical assistance to the man until an ambulance arrived. The knife was confiscated, and the wounded man was taken to hospital.

It was found out that the person that unlawfully entered the NA area was Masis city resident Vrezh Galstyan, who was born in 1988. According to preliminary information, he has twice been convicted before. 

A Special Investigation Service (SIS) team was dispatched to the scene of the incident, and the necessary investigation was conducted. As a result, the SIS launched criminal proceedings against Vrezh Galstyan. On March 25, the court sentenced Galstyan to two months in prison and, on March 29, he was taken to Nubarashen Mental Clinic.
