YEREVAN. – A discussion, titled “Conflict Prevention and Natural Resources,” was held Wednesday at the UN Security Council.
Armenia’s Permanent Representative to UN, Ambassador Garen Nazarian, also addressed the event, the Armenian MFA press service informs.
Nazarian noted that it is indispensable to also analyze the role of natural resources in protracting the political settlement of conflicts, and he proposed to examine the respective outlook of the South Caucasus countries and their policies.
He stated that the mechanisms, whereby the natural resources either stimulate or prolong conflicts, have deep economic and societal roots. In this context, Nazarian also reflected on corruption, weak state, and the absence of accountability.
