YEREVAN. – Armenian National Security Council (NSC) Secretary Arthur Baghdasaryan on Wednesday received a delegation led by Štefan Füle, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy.

The interlocutors discussed the current state of, and the development prospects for, Armenia-European Union (EU) cooperation, the NSC press office informs. Also, they gave a positive assessment to the level of cooperation and the development of relations.

Baghdasaryan reflected on the programs that are implemented along the lines of Armenia-EU cooperation and noted that all programs are proceeding with success.

The parties recorded the progress in the ongoing talks on the Armenia-EU Association Agreement, the Armenia-EU Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area agreement, and the EU visa relaxation for Armenian citizens.

Füle noted that the EU Eastern Partnership summit—which is to be held in Vilnius, Lithuania, in November—will be crucial in Armenia-EU relations, since EU wishes to sign the Association Agreement during this summit, and this agreement may become a real tool for political association and economic integration.

In addition, the European Commissioner expressed his willingness to continue assisting in Armenia’s ongoing reforms because the latter are fully consistent with the philosophy of the European Neighbourhood Policy.

Arthur Baghdasaryan and Štefan Füle also discussed regional security, peace, and stability matters.
