YEREVAN – Armenia-Russia relations have played a huge role in Armenia’s political and military security, and therefore the European Union likewise has ensured the balance.

Opposition Heritage Party Secretary Styopa Safaryan noted the aforesaid during a press conference on Wednesday.

As per Safaryan, Armenia’s joining the Customs Union upsets the balance in foreign policy.

“One thing is clear: we end up in completely new realities. This is the problem that causes concern. Association with the European Union cannot be contradistinguished with the Customs Union accession.

“Unlike becoming a member in the Customs Union, Armenia does not upset the balance by signing the Association Agreement with the European Union,” Styopa Safaryan concluded.

To note, as a result of the talks that were held on September 3 in Moscow between Armenian and Russian Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin, Sargsyan announced that Armenia plans to join the Customs Union and subsequently engage in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union.
