YEREVAN. – By voicing Armenia’s intention to join the Customs Union, President Sargsyan closed the EU door but did not lock it, political scientist said during discussion on Thursday.

Richard Giragosian, Director of Regional Studies Center, noted that the fact that such a decision was made under Russia’s pressure is creating problems for Armenia, as the strategic allies should not behave in this way.

Giragosian also pointed to the fact that the Armenian government was not aware of and was not ready for such a development. This reveals another problem that exists in the decision-making process.

In addition, the expert believes that the EU has also not been informed, and we can say was cheated. Giragosian believes this will make EU treat Armenia as an insincere and incompetent country.
