YEREVAN. – Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian, who is on an official visit to Rome, on Thursday met with Pier Ferdinando Casini, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate of Italy.   

They exchanged views on interparliamentary, decentralized, and trade and economic cooperation, and underscored the role of parliamentary diplomacy in the development of relations between the two countries, the Armenian MFA press service informs.   

The interlocutors also reflected on the avenues for resolving the Syrian crisis, and the negotiation process concerning Iran’s nuclear program. 

At the request of Senator Casini, Armenia’s FM spoke about the ongoing efforts by Armenia and the international community toward a pacific settlement to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. 

On the same day, Edward Nalbandian also met with Mayor Ignazio Marino of Rome.

They discussed the steps to be taken toward establishing cooperation between the Armenian and the Italian capital cities, Yerevan and Rome.  

Nalbandian and Marino also highlighted the need to organize joint cultural events in both cities.  

In addition, the interlocutors looked into a potential cooperation between Yerevan and Rome, in the domains of culture, tourism, and health care. 

In Rome, Nalbandian also met with members of the Armenia Friendship Group of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies of Italy.

He noted that the aforementioned parliamentary group may greatly contribute to the development of Armenian-Italian cooperation.   

Edward Nalbandian presented Armenia’s outlook on regional and international matters to the Italian parliamentarians, and he responded to their numerous queries.
