If any one of the parties does not accept the concept for the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution, expecting progress in talks becomes an unjustified optimism.

Nagorno-Karabakh Republic National Assembly (NKR NA) Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Vahram Atanesyan told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am. 

Atanesyan commented on the Armenian and Azerbaijani president’s forthcoming meeting, which is slated for this month.

In his words, it is difficult to say what results this meeting will yield. 

“I do not condition this on the incidents occurring at the border. We should bear in mind that the last meeting virtually failed because of the new ideas that the Azerbaijani party put forward,” Atanesyan noted.   

In the NKR NA member’s conviction, Azerbaijan’s position runs counter to international mediators’ concepts for the resolution of the conflict. 

He also stressed that the Karabakh peace talks should restore the format which the OSCE Minsk Group had initially specified. 

“It means that [official] Stepanakert [i.e., Nagorno-Karabakh] likewise should be present at the negotiations; this is indispensable for expecting any progress in the peace process,” Vahram Atanesyan concluded.
