YEREVAN. – Armenian Deputy Speaker said it would be more effective if Turkey used its reputation to influence Azerbaijan instead of speaking a language of ultimatums with Armenia.

Eduard Sharmazanov, who is also a spokesperson for Armenia’s ruling Republican Party of Armenia, commented on the recent statements made by Turkish Foreign Minister.

“Turkish FM has recently said the opening of Armenia-Turkey border is possible in the coming years if Armenia withdraws the troops from liberated territories. I think everyone can understand that talking with Armenia in the language of ultimatums is a thankless job. And we have always said that the relations between Armenia and Turkey should develop without preconditions.

It is better that Turkey would use its influence more effectively, urging Azerbaijan to withdraw its troops from the occupied territories of Nagorno-Karabakh, including the north of Martakert region, and herself to end the occupation of Northern Cyprus. The Armenian people lived, lives and will live in Karabakh, because it is a part of our sacred homeland,” Sharmazanov said.
