Armenia is greatly interested in strengthening friendly relations with the countries of Latin America.
Armenian National Assembly (NA) Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan, who is on an official visit to Argentina, stated the aforesaid Tuesday at his talk with Argentine Vice President Amado Boudou, who is also President of the Senate of Argentina.
The NA leader highly appreciated the current level of development in Armenian-Argentinean political relations. In Abrahamyan’s view, friendly relations between the two countries are a solid basis for cooperation in several other domains.
But, as per the Armenian parliament speaker, the present-day volume of trade between the two countries does not correspond to the existing potential. Abrahamyan added that it is indispensable to make maximum use of this potential.
“The Armenian National Assembly looks toward further developing the ties with the parliament of Argentina. I am convinced that our visit will achieve a positive change in relations between our two countries,” the NA leader said, in particular.
For his part, Amado Boudou likewise praised Armenian-Argentine relations and highlighted the need to develop the ties further.
“I am confident that your visit will give new impetus to the strengthening of friendship and promote cooperation between the two countries and peoples. The Armenian community [of Argentina] plays a big role in the development of relations between the two countries,” Argentina’s vice president and Senate president specifically said.
The interlocutors reflected on regional matters, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and Armenian-Turkish relations.
Abrahamyan noted that Armenia highly evaluates Argentina’s neutral position in connection with the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The NA speaker also thanked Argentina for the passing of a law, according to which the Armenian Genocide is commemorated in Argentina every year on April 24.
At the end of the talk, Hovik Abrahamyan invited Amado Boudou to an official visit to Armenia, and the Argentine official gladly accepted the invitation.
The Armenian delegation, led by the National Assembly speaker, also toured the Argentinean National Congress building.
The talk between the two officials was broadcast live on the central television of Argentina.
