YEREVAN. – President and the government of Ukraine will do everything to return Crimea, Ukraine's Ambassador Ivan Kukhta told reporters on Wednesday.

Asked whether he believes in returning Crimea to Ukraine, Ambassador said he believes in God and stressed that Crimea is a territory of Ukraine. He recalled UN General Assembly's decision on territorial integrity of Ukraine.

“Crimea is de facto occupied by Russia. The president and government of Ukraine will do everything to return Crimea to Ukraine,” he said.

Asked about the future status of Donetsk and Lugansk, the Ambassador recalled that in September Minsk hosted the meeting of the contact group with the representatives from Russia, Ukraine, OSCE, Donetsk and Lugansk regions.

Following the meeting, a protocol and memorandum were signed determining the status of the region, mechanisms of ceasefire monitoring by means of OSCE on the Ukrainian-Russian border, holding elections of self-government bodies.

“The memorandum is implementation of a peace plan by President Poroshenko that was voiced during inauguration,” Ambassador emphasized.

He added that the above-mentioned regions are a part of Ukraine, and the status change can only happen through parliament and in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine.
