YEREVAN. – Armenia’s joining the Eurasian Union is not membership, but rather forced joining, since the country’s authorities made such a decision overnight.

Opposition Heritage Party MP Zaruhi Postanjyan stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Wednesday, in response to a query on how Armenia’s forthcoming accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) will impact on the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR).

In Postanjyan’s words, the EEU accession documents contain a clear provision, pursuant to which a customs checkpoint will be set up on the Armenia-NKR border.

“And this means that there will be customs officers [on the border], and they may be Kazakhstan representatives, who have close friendly relations with Azerbaijan.

“The matter of ensuring the security of both Armenia and the NKR arises here,” Heritage’s MP noted.
