YEREVAN. – There is tension in the entire Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) expanse, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reported.
“The disagreements between EEU members Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan are exacerbating; these processes may impact Armenia’s [planned EEU] accession.
“The Armenia NA [i.e., National Assembly] ratification of the treaty on Armenia’s joining the EEU does not yet mean that Armenia will become an EEU member. For Armenia’s full membership, this treaty needs to be ratified also in Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan.
“Our sources claim that there is an agreement that the treaty must be ratified by all four countries by no later than December 23. No one in Armenia’s authority circles doubts that Russia will ratify the treaty within the specified period.
“But there is a view that the recent tension in Belarus-Russia, Kazakhstan-Russia relations may become a reason for Belarus or Kazakhstan to put off the ratification of the treaty as a means to counter Russia,” Haykakan Zhamanak wrote.
