US Representative Adam Schiff condemned the recent killing of an Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic; NKR) Defense Army soldier by the Azeri forces along the Line of Contact, Asbarez reported.
“The killing of yet another Karabakh soldier by Azeri forces is the latest outrage perpetrated by Baku against the Armenian people and I extend my condolences to the family and colleagues of the dead soldier,” Schiff said.
He added that, “this unprovoked and deadly violence against the people of Artsakh and its people must stop” and that this incident, “should serve to spur the Minsk Group to redouble its efforts to mediate a peaceful solution to a standoff that could erupt at any moment.”
“I also urge Secretary of State John Kerry to take this issue up with the [Azerbaijan President Ilham] Aliyev regime as soon as possible and before more innocent lives are lost,” Schiff also said in his statement.
Nineteen-year-old NKR Defense Army serviceman Garik Ispiryan was shot dead on Monday by Azeri forces firing in the direction of Armenian positions at the eastern section of the Line of Contact between the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and Azerbaijan.
