Erol Dora, Turkish Parliament’s Assyrian MP from Turkey 's pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party's (BDP), visited the Armenian orphanage ‘Camp Armen,’ which is under the threat of demolition.  

During his visit, the Assyrian MP met with activists of the Armenian movement ‘Nor Zartonk’ (‘New Awakening’), who keep vigil over the half-ruined building, trying to save it from demolition, the Armenian-Turkish newspaper Agos reports.

Following his visit, Erol Dora stated that anyone who has at least a mite of conscience, would give the building to the Armenians. It’s necessary to demand transferring ‘Camp Armen’ not to social ownership, but to that of the Armenian community, he said.

In 1987, the orphanage ‘Camp Armen’ was usurped by the Turkish state, following which it was sold to a private entrepreneur. The latter decided to build elite apartment building on their place. Public pressure helped to stop the demolition of the building.

Famous Armenian-Turkish journalist Hrant dink, assassinated in 2007, and his widow Rakel, grew up in that orphanage.
