YEREVAN. – Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Baku Office on Tuesday paid a visit to Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) citizen Arsen Baghdasaryan, who is held captive in Azerbaijan.

The communications officer of the ICRC Yerevan Office, Zara Amatuni, told Armenian News-NEWS.am that, during this visit, Baghdasaryan was permitted to exchange family information.

An Azerbaijan court had sentenced the captured NKR citizen to fifteen years in a maximum security prison. Within the framework of this hastily concocted case, he was charged with “sabotage.”

The case brought against Arsen Baghdasaryan, however, was also a vivid illustration of Azerbaijan’s violation of international human rights. The Azerbaijani authorities had not permitted the ICRC representatives to see him for 1.5 months since his capture. Baghdasaryan was taken into Azerbaijan captivity on December 26 of the year past.
