YEREVAN. – Aram Grigoryan, who is charged with running over and killing Turkish journalist Gaye Coşar in downtown of Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan, says he is not guilty.    

Grigoryan, speaking to Armenian News-NEWS.am, blamed the Turkish journalist arguing that the latter was lying in the middle of the boulevard and he had not noticed her. 

“The Turkish journalist was lying on the street at around 5am in the night. Once I saw [her], I put my foot on the brake, but the car didn’t stop, and I hit that girl with the front part of my car,” said Grigoryan. “We immediately called for an ambulance, the police; she was transferred to hospital, but, unfortunately, she died in thirteen days.”

Aram Grigoryan does not agree with the expertise results, according to which he could have seen the young woman lying on the street from 28 meters, with the high beams of his vehicle. He stated that the low beams of his car were turned on, and therefore it was possible to see only the nearest 10 meters.

Grigoryan claims that an incorrect expertise was conducted, and he is going to file a petition that a second expertise be conducted.  

Turkish journalist Gaye Coşar had died as a result of the aforesaid traffic accident on January 7.

Coşar was working in Yerevan within the framework of an Armenian-Turkish project.
