Armenia’s new Ambassador to Germany, Ashot Smbatyan, on Wednesday presented his credentials to German President Joachim Gauck.

Gauck congratulated Smbatyan on his appointment. He also expressed the hope that the diplomat will make an important contribution to further strengthening and expanding Armenia-Germany friendship relations and mutually beneficial cooperation.

In the ensuing tête-à-tête, and at the request of the German president, Ambassador Smbatyan spoke about the course of development of Armenia-European Union relations. 

The interlocutors also reflected on political discourse, trade and economic cooperation, regional developments, and the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.

In addition, Ambassador Ashot Smbatyan thanked for Germany’s ongoing assistance in Armenia’s development.
