Thailand on Friday closed its embassy in Ankara and consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, after a protest against the kingdom’s deportation of Uighur Muslims to China, reported Yahoo News.

The respective decision comes after representatives of the Uighur diaspora on Thursday attacked the Thai consulate in Istanbul.

The angry mobs with stones and sticks broke glasses and stormed into the building. But no one was injured during the incident, reported Lenta.

The protests began after Bangkok announced that it had deported 97 Uighurs—who had arrived illegally in Thailand—back to China.

Human rights activists, however, have expressed concern about this decision. They fear that these illegal Uighur immigrants could face harsh treatment and torture on their return to China.
