WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States (US) should pay more attention to the South Caucasus region.

The US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Eric Rubin—who is responsible for issues related to Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and regional conflicts in Europe—, stated the aforementioned speaking at The Brookings Institution—an American think tank based in Washington, D.C.

Rubin stressed that the status quo in the South Caucasus is unacceptable, informed the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter in the US capital city.

In his words, one of Washington’s most important achievements in the South Caucasus in recent years is the coordination, with the European Union, of policy towards the South Caucasus

The US State Department official also noted that Washington plans to focus on the development of economic cooperation in the region. In particular, the US wishes to contribute so that the South Caucasus becomes a global transportation hub with developed infrastructure.

Eric Rubin stated that even though Armenia is still left out of such projects, all countries in the region need to be engaged in them and the regional conflicts should be resolved, for a successful implementation of these plans.
