A meeting of the Synod of the Armenian Catholic Bishop gathered at the residence of the residence of the Armenian Catholic Patriarchate in Lebanon to elect a successor to Nerses Bedros XIX Tarmouni who died June 25 at the age of 75.
In order to become the new Patriarch, a candidate must receive two-thirds of the votes by Synod of Bishops consisting of 13 members, L'Orient-Le Jour reported.
If no candidate receives a number of votes on the basis of a limited number of rounds, the voters will choose between the two candidates who obtained the highest number of votes. A letter will be sent to the Vatican immediately after the election.
