YEREVAN. – With the new Constitution of Armenia, the parliamentary opposition will be given quite major powers, and this is an indicator of democracy.

Vice president of the National Assembly (NA), Eduard Sharmazanov, who is also the spokesperson of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), told the aforementioned to reporters, and after Thursday’s RPA Board meeting.

He noted this reflecting on the amendment proposed by the new draft Constitution, and pursuant to which, one of the two NA deputy speakers shall be a member of the parliamentary opposition.

“This is very welcome for me,” added Sharmazanov.

In his words, the opposition will elect the opposition vice president of the NA, whereas the authorities will not participate in the nomination of this candidate.
