The Investigative Committee of Armenia is conducting an investigation to determine the causes of the chain car accident that occurred in Gyumri city, and in which a Russian military serviceman was involved.

A report was received on July 19 at 11:10pm that, on the same day, a Russian soldier, by the name of Aleksandr Kalentev, was taken to Gyumri Medical Center, and with physical injuries caused by a car accident.

It was found out that Kalentev, who was driving a Mercedes-Benz C-Class on a Gyumri street at around 10:20pm, had gone onto the opposite lane and collided with a GAZ 3110 101-model vehicle, then continued driving toward a building and collided with an Opel Vectra—that was parked near the sidewalk—which, in turn, moved forward and crashed into the vehicle that was parked in front of it.

Aleksandr Kalentev was taken to hospital on an ambulance.

The sobriety level of the drivers of the aforementioned vehicles was tested. Accordingly, Kalentev was found to be under the influence of alcohol, whereas the others were sober.

The Russian soldier stated that he is to blame for this chain car crash, since he was driving under the influence, and he stands ready to cover all the damages of the crash victims.

A forensic examination has been commissioned.
