YEREVAN. – The “Stand up, Armenia” citizens’ movement sit-in at Republic Square in capital city Yerevan, and against the electricity price hike in the country, is on its eleventh day on Saturday.
And over 1,500 signatures were collected in three days by the initiative’s signature campaign demanding the resignation of the members of the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC).
“Stand up, Armenia” Board member, political scientist, and ex-presidential candidate Andreas Ghukasyan told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.
He added that respective signature campaigns are held in Gyumri and Vanadzor cities, too.
“We are holding a signature campaign [at Republic Square] for three days already, but we are holding it primarily for four hours—in the cool [weather] hours—during the day,” said Ghukasyan. “Mostly four of the five passersby approach and sign [the signature campaign]; that is, people are actively participating.”
On July 27, the participants in the “Stand up, Armenia” movement commenced a sit-in at Republic Square. They demand the revoking of the PSRC decision to raise the electricity tariff in Armenia, resignation of the PSRC members, and nationalization of the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) CJSC—which supplies electricity to the country’s residents and whose proprietor is the Russian state-owned Inter RAO UES Company.
