The delegation led by Armenia’s PM Hovik Abrahamyan today attended the opening ceremony of the Eurasian Economic Forum in Xi’an.

The Forum is held twice a year, and is attended by the government heads of numerous countries, international organizations and large companies, Armenia’s government press-service reports. This year the number of delegates constituted about thousands of people.

At the opening ceremony, Hovik Abrahamyan made a report on the “New model of cooperation: Joint development of countries of Great Silk Road.”

“The success of the economic development of any country in the 21st century depends on its ability to adapt to new global phenomena and integrate in the global economy,” he said.

According to Abrahamyan, the re-establishment of the Great Silk Road will lay grounds for a new development stage of integration processes.

“For many decades, Armenia used to be considered the most important transit direction of the Great Silk Road, linking Europe with Asia. Having that kind of historic experience, Armenia apparently welcomed the idea of the Great Silk Road Economic Belt, which was advanced by President Xi Jinping in 2013,” Abrahamyan said.

In Abrahamyan’s words, thanks to its “geographic position, human resources and different formats of international economic cooperation, Armenia is a country of great opportunities.”
