YEREVAN. - Problems of Syrian Armenians are constantly in the centre of Armenian authorities’ attention, Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan stated today in the framework of the 6th session of the State Commission on Coordination of events for commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
The President said he is extremely concerned about the continuing clashes in Syria and deteriorating humanitarian situation in the region.
Sargsyan stressed that the Armenian authorities constantly keep in the focus of their attention the problems of Armenians, specifically Syrian Armenians, living in the region, the proof of which is the only foreign representation operating in Aleppo in the recent years, namely the Consulate General of Armenia, as well as the Armenian Embassy, which continues its work in Damascus, Armenian President press-service reports.
“Successors of Armenian Genocide survivors share the fate of nations, who once extended them a helping hand. They continue sustaining human and material losses,” the President said, stressing that Armenia has opened its doors to everyone, already having hosted about 16,000 fellow countrymen.
According to Sargsyan, all state institutions of Armenia are engaged in the work on the solution of problems of Syrian Armenians and acceleration of their integration into the Armenian society.
