Azerbaijani side opened fire in the direction of the buildings on Komitas street in bordering Chambarak town of Armenia’s Gegharkunik province on September 27 at about 22:30-23:00. Consequently, one house and one apartment were damaged, Mayor of Chambarak Yura Avalyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am, noting that mainly the windows and the roof were damaged, there being no victims.

“I can’t say what weapons they used, but these weren’t large-scale weapons, since shrapnel damages were inflicted. The bullets damaged the windows and entered the house. The residents were not in the room, where the bullets entered and there were no human losses. The other bullet only touched the roof, damaging some of its parts,” the Mayor said.

Avalyan also said that the Commission set up by the Municipality is investigating the amount of damages inflicted, and, if necessary, will provide financial support to the residents who suffered as a result of the shootings from the Azerbaijani side.

In the Mayor’s words, shootings in the direction of houses in Chaabarak are rare, being last recorded 4 months ago.

According to the Mayor, the shooting are mainly fired in the direction of the military positions, but even in case of their being directed at the settlements, the residents never panic.

“The residents are used to those shootings. They are ready from both psychological and military standpoints,” the Mayor said.
