YEREVAN. – A 2.5-percent decrease in birth rate has been recorded in Armenia in the first nine months of this year, as compared to the same period last year.

Head of the Census and Demography Division at the National Statistical Service, Karine Kuyumjyan, said the abovementioned at a press conference on Friday.

In her words, the birth rate in the country has amounted to 13.7 births, 1,000 per capita, and the highest birth rate—15 births, 1,000 per capita—was recorded in capital city Yerevan.

“The natural increase amounted to 9,766 persons in Armenia,” Kuyumjyan added. “[But] its indicator likewise has decreased by 6.2 percent, as compared to 2014.”
