A trove of 700 medieval coins was found not far from Prague, press-service of East Bohemian Museum in Pardubice city reports.

Museum's research fellow Petr Vorel believes the trove can be called the "hoard of the century," since the Central Europe has " no analogue in terms of size, completeness and excellent preservation of the coins".

"These are Czech silver denarii that circulated throughout Europe. The weight of each coin is about 0.5 grams. As a means of payment, they were widely used, in particular, in Novgorod and Kievan Rus', with whom medieval Czech state supported extensive trade relations", Museum Director Tomasz Liberec told TASS, referring to the trove dating from the 10th century.

The treasure was found by a passer-by in November 2015, but the Museum announced about it only in January. Over 400 surviving coins and fragments of the vessel, in which they were buried, were handed for study and storage. The man who found the treasure, was promised a reward in the amount of two million kroner.
