An Armenian military serviceman was killed in the battles in Damascus, the capital city of Syria, between the Syrian government troops and the Islamic State terrorists.

The fallen soldier was Azad Ghazarian, reported Kantsasar Armenian newspaper of Syria.

According to the paper, Ghazarian was from Al-Qamishli, a city in northeastern Syria.

Around 60 to 70 thousand Armenians lived in Syria before the start of the civil war in the country. More than half of these Armenians resided in Aleppo, the largest city in Syria, and the rest lived in capital city Damascus and several other towns.
