One of the questions is whether Russia knew about the attack being prepared against Karabakh, or the situation just got out of control while the [Armenian and Azerbaijani] presidents were in Washington, DC, wrote L’Opinion daily newspaper of France.

“Russia, the traditional ally of Armenia, is linked to Yerevan with an agreement in the defense sector; but it applies solely to the internationally recognized border, and not to the [Karabakh-Azerbaijan] Line of Contact,” the article reads. “While Turkey, in PM [Ahmet] Davutoğlu’s words, supports Azerbaijan ‘to the end,’ Russia seeks political solutions. Especially PM Dmitry Medvedev strives to resume [the Karabakh peace] talks.

“[But] it remains to understand what price Azerbaijan was willing to pay to Russia, so that the latter exert pressure on Armenia.”
