The Chief Executive Officer of the anti-monarchy campaign group Republic Graham Smith has suggested the UK to hold a referendum on future of the monarchy, Gazeta reported quoting The Guardian.

It is reported that the movement urges to hold the referendum on the future of monarchy after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, who celebrates her 90th anniversary on Thursday.

Smith stated they will have an opportunity to carry out campaign in the period between a funeral of the queen and crowning of the king and added that this is XXI century and if they are going to get a new head of state, they can hold a vote.

At the same time the edition conducted survey according to which the number of supporters of the monarchy in Britain is at least 75%.
