YEREVAN. - President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan received the European Parliament MP Frank Engel Saturday.
Sargsyan highly appreciated Frank Engel’s activity directed at the issues of concern to Armenia and Armenian people, as well as his special attitude to Karabakh conflict, which, according to Sargsyan, was best manifested in the European Parliament, as well as in the speech delivered by Engel during the Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide Saturday.
Sargsyan thanked for the accurate information and correct approaches included in Frank Engel’s speeches. “It’s very important that the European Parliament and generally the entire European society be aware of the actual events, their causes and motives,” the Armenian President said, appreciating MEP Engel’s initiative to visit Nagorno-Karabakh these days.
For his part, Frank Engel thanked the Armenian President for the reception and high evaluation of his public activity, as well as warm words.
At the meeting, the interlocutors also exchanged thoughts on the possibility to resume talks over the peaceful solution to Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and ensure conditions necessary for that today. Engel attached importance to the exclusively peaceful settlement of the conflict, expressing readiness to contribute to the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group.
By the end of the meeting, President Sargsyan bestowed Mkhitar Gosh medal, Armenian high state award, upon Frank Engel, which he was awarded in the beginning of the year for his significant input in the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
